Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Homologous recombination-mediated gene targeting (GT) is a precise genome editing technique that allows for modifying target genes as desired. However, its efficiency is quite low in most plant species. In this study, we explored ways to improve GT efficiency by controlling the DNA repair pathway and improving the delivery method of the template sequences for homologous recombination.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
GTは望み通りに標的遺伝子を改変できることから、交配育種や突然変異育種だけでは叶わなかった様々な形質を作物に付与することが可能である。しかしながら、イネ以外の作物種で汎用的なGT系は確立されておらず、本研究で得た知見は広範な作物種に適用可能なGT系確立への道筋を示し、精密なゲノム編集技術を利用した育種素材開発を促進すると期待される。
