Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the first financial year we have no completely fine tuned to analysis pipeline. Being able to correctly identify neurons by their colour alone. Namely we've fine tuned our quality control pipeline, adjusted our new clustering algorithm (provisionally named dCrawler, with patent pending), and improved the tracing process. This means that we've begun to address the salient question of what is going on in the olfactory cortex.
We have also published a machine learning tool to correct for chromatic aberration in 3d volumetric images.
Finally we've also begun to attempt to see what else our classifier can be used for. Including the registration of serial sections and the sorting of genomic data.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Things are progressing rather smoothly. There were some unexpected pitfalls associated with the quality of our imaging due to poor brightness of several fluorescent proteins. Furthermore, we also detected inaccuracies in the commercialy purchased tracing software which we were using. I have no addressed these issues and as such things should hopefully progress faster. In fact figures are being prepared for the first publication

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Complete the figures for initial submission of the paper. Begin to build a projectome for the adult mouse olfactory cortex. Begin work on barcode work in the olfactory cortex
Trial the crawler on genomic data and write up the dCrawler as a paper. Also produce a python version of dCrawler.
Create a version of our ML chromatic aberration correction software that does lateral and axial aberrations

Causes of Carryover |
Lack of time meant that some of the molecular biology and surgery equipment have not been purchased yet. I expect to use up the funds in the next financial year
