Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Two-dimensional culture using hydrogel enabled the induction of ovarian cancer stem cells. Cells obtained by hydrogel induction exhibited stem cell characteristics, with high expression of stem cell biomarkers, high anticancer drug resistance, and dependence on mitochondrial metabolism observed. Furthermore, in vivo experiments showed that these cells exhibited stronger tumorigenic potential. From microarray analysis, we identified a gene X that is highly expressed specifically in ovarian cancer stem cells. This has not been reported in previous studies, and inhibitory therapy targeting gene X could be a new potential therapy for ovarian cancer.
