Outline of Final Research Achievements

Optokinetic nystagmus is a rythmical eye movement when the subject is watching the visual stimuli moving in one direction. We studied the effects of wide field size and spatial frequency of visual stimuli on gaze orientation of optokinetic nystagmus. The sine grating were made by computer graphics and presented on the one or three monitors which equal to 90 or 270 degree size, respectively. They were performed at verly low cost. The mean standard deviations of horizontal gaze positoins and the areas of 95% confidence ellipse of optokinetic nystagmus occurred by 90 degree field size were significantly larger than those by 270 degree. Such difference between field sizes were observed for the spatial frequencies of 0.25 cycle per degree and more.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
