Outline of Final Research Achievements

Through two-stage parking behavior experiments targeting large parking lots of roadside rest areas, points to note in designing safe and comfortable parking areas have been investigated. From the first-stage experiment, scenes where traffic lines intersect in entering and exiting situations were extracted, and design countermeasure plans were proposed to road administrators. From the second-stage experiment, parking behaviors involving backing up showed low subjective evaluations on average among middle-aged people, and situations to be avoided in improvement works of existing parking lots were reported to road administrators.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

中高年被験者を対象にした駐車行動観察実験から、道の駅大型駐車場では後退入出庫を避けたデザインが高い評価を示すことを、集計データ平均値の範囲内で確認した。この結果は、道の駅の機能向上が社会的に期待される中で、自動車駐車場の設計に係わる政令を供用済み道の駅駐車場の維持・更新に対応させる上でのきっかけを与えたと考えられる。
