Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
I have had the following papers accepted for publication: ‘Digital Literary Practice and COVID-19’ for Journal of Intercultural Studies, ‘Beyond Maximalism’ (conference proceedings), ‘Digital Orihon: The (un)continuous shape of the novel’ in electronic book review, and ‘Extending modernist stream-of-consciousness aesthetics: Digital variations on William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury’ in Digital Scholarship in the Humanities. Practice-led research has been published in Taper and TEXT. I have presented papers at the following: JADH: Digital Humanities and COVID-19 2021, ELO: Platform (Post?) Pandemic 2021, and Texts and their Limits: Triennial Literary Studies Convention 2021. I have written an introduction and two chapters, conducted text/digital comparison on the work of digital artists, and submitted book proposals (currently under consideration).

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
As indicated within the application, there were concerns that the initial plan to conduct international research in the first year of the grant would be obstructed due to travel restrictions imposed by COVID-19. In the proposal I also proposed conducting second year research in the first year to accommodate this. In this sense the project has not been delayed, so much as conducted in a less conventional order. I expect that this year research travel will be possible, and the project will be back on track as outlined in the initial proposal.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the following year, assuming travel restrictions are lifted, I intend to conduct my proposed international research by travelling to the United States of America. In May, I intend to present a paper at the ELO conference: Education and Electronic Literature. I am also a Japanese representative for the conference’s organizing committee. Additionally, I plan to attend one international and one local conference later this year. I also plan to write the bulk of the proposed monograph in 2022.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Due to the coronavirus, I was unable to conduct the necessary international research in the previous year. I plan to conduct this research this year.
