Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In 2023, some of the project's preliminary results were presented at the 16th International Cognitive Linguistics Conference in Dusseldorf, Germany. In this presentation, the updated results of the mental lexicon investigation through the word association data were reported. The updated data confirms the results of our earlier studies, finding eight types of spatial concepts for Japanese. At the 17th International Conference of the European Association of Japanese Studies, Ghent, Belgium, we reported on the development of the word association database used for this project and its potential to be used as a language learning tool. This year, we got the number of Japanese word association responses to over 750000. The English part of the spontaneous speech experiment was prepared and conducted during my academic visit to the Nissan Institute of Japanese Studies at the University of Oxford. The experimental part of the study is still ongoing online and offline through the webpage and experiment platform developed for this.
