Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
After obtaining ethics approval, cycle one used H5P software to create interactive videos for feedback on students' speaking. Students uploaded speaking samples and the software assisted the provision of feedback on this speaking. Data was collected via student journals and comments and student and teacher assessment scores. Data analysis showed that interactive feedback videos improved correlations between student and teacher assessments of their speaking; student anxiety was reduced; students valued the feedback process; and student self-reflection on language use increased. Reflections on the setup process indicated a necessity for teacher training and a commitment of time and effort in order to use this software effectively.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Campus access restrictions due to COVID-19 complicated data collection, however, strategies were introduced to limit the impact of these restrictions as much as possible.
The demands of the ethics approval process at my institution also necessitated adjustments to the original research plan, but ethics approval was granted.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Cycle two will collect data from a larger number of participants in order to increase the validity of findings. Triangulation of data in cycle one and two will increase the reliability and validity of conclusions further. The software will be adapted through reflection on cycle one, particularly in terms of making it more accessible to students and teachers, and reducing the time burden of giving feedback in this manner. Additional classroom teachers will be asked to participate in the research and asked to record their reflections in research journals. Particularly teachers who may not have a high level of proficiency in using CALL or this form of software. Cycle one findings have been presented, or have been accepted for presentation at numerous international conferences.

Causes of Carryover |
Due to the COVID epidemic, overseas presentations were conducted online, so funds for overseas travel were not used. In the next fiscal year money will be used to fund accepted presentations at JALT, JACET and EUROCALL International conferences. The researcher has also applied to numerous other presentations and is awaiting the results of proposal submission. Funds will also be used to employ translators/ data collection for the final data analysis.
