Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
I researched and compared the eye-tracking systems currently available in Japan, and communicated with different companies to discuss issues about purchasing and installing their eye-tracking systems in my institution. I also checked and compared the computer models that were compatible with the different eye-tracking systems. Additionally, I submitted my application for starting an eye-tracking laboratory in my institution, and discussed with the administrative staff about relevant issues including finding an available room with appropriate setup on campus. I received approval from my institution for carrying out this project in a dedicated eye-tracking laboratory. Based on the information about the equipment and the laboratory, I made some adjustments to my original research plan.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Originally I planned to finish purchasing and installing the eye-tracking system in my institution during the first fiscal year. However, due to the COVID-19 situation, I was not able to travel to the stores of the eye-tracking companies in Japan to try out the equipment. I thought it would be helpful to actually try out different eye-tracking systems before making the purchase. Therefore, I would rather wait a bit for the COVID-19 situation to improve and take the trips to the stores of the eye-tracking companies later.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I plan to complete the trips to the eye-tracking stores when school is not in session during the second fiscal year. After that, I will decide which eye-tracking system to purchase and have it delivered and installed in my institution. When the hardware and software are ready, I will start programing the experiment and conduct a pilot study. Depending on the availability of research participants (e.g., how many students are able to come to the laboratory to finish data collection), I will adjust my plan for recruiting research participants for the pilot study and the main study.

Causes of Carryover |
Due to the COVID-19 situation, I was not able to travel to the stores of the eye-tracking companies to actually try out their systems. I would prefer to make the purchase after having a try, so I did not use the amount in this fiscal year. I plan to take the trips and complete the purchase in the next fiscal year, and I will use the amount then.
