The research objective for 2021 was to examine and clarify the relationship among hegemony, knowledge production and think tanks. While focusing on literature review, the finding was presented at academic conferences (‘Japan’s Converging Strategies~’, 2021/4/6;‘Realism and conservatism in Japan~,’ 2022/3/28) and an invited lecture (‘Inheriting Abe’s Legacy? Japan’s Security Discourse under the Kishida Administration,’ George Washington University, 2021/11/30), it was carried out by clarifying the connection of hegemony, knowledge production and think tanks. Also a book review was released (‘Book Review: Jennifer M. Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
As explained in Summary of Research Achievement, this project was carried out by mainly focusing on literature review while presenting the findings at the academic conferences and other relevant academic platforms. Also, while data collection and analysis of think tanks reports will be conducted in the year of 2022, some analysis of symposium and reports of think tanks about the Indo-Pacific was made.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The research aim for 2022 is to focus on data collection and analysis of symposiums and reports of think tanks relating to the Indo-Pacific and international liberal order (ILO) by identifying the frequencies of those concepts. Furthermore, discourse analysis of reports and the content of symposiums and workshops of think tanks will be conducted in an attempt of answering the research question “in what ways the role of think tanks contributes to shaping foreign and security policymaking”. Some of the findings from this project is intended to be presented at the academic conferences and/or equivalent academic platforms.

Causes of Carryover |
The incurring amount was intended to be used for proofreading/editing which was not being able to be used during the year of 2021 considering the progress of literature review and writing/publishing. This amount will be used in the year 2022 for proofreading/editing in an attempt of publishing some of the research findings as (a) peer-reviewed journal article(s).
