Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the second year, I consolidated the initial findings on key sectors, productive capacity, and regional interdependencies in production into four manuscripts. Additionally, I developed a comprehensive questionnaire for the upcoming firm-level survey, which is scheduled to be carried out in the third year. This survey is designed to identify cross-border value chains that exhibit growth potential. Moreover, I initiated the groundwork for data collection by assembling and training local research teams in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, and Zambia. Furthermore, I forged research partnerships with policymakers from relevant ministries and agencies, fostering collaborative efforts in the field.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Despite the challenging circumstances posed by the absence of a comprehensive census in Central African Countries, my project has been progressing relatively smoothly. I have employed innovative methods to identify and sample firms and businesses for participation in the survey. By utilizing alternative data sources, such as industry databases, trade associations, and networking within local business communities, I have been able to overcome the hurdle of limited census data. This resourcefulness has ensured a diverse and representative sample for the survey.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I plan to compile a book proposal and draft a manuscript on the firm-level survey. I will also build a website for the project.

Causes of Carryover |
The amount to be used next fiscal year is intended to support data collection of firm level and participation in academic conferences
