| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The current research mainly analyzes how macroeconomic uncertainty in the destination market affects foreign direct investment (FDI hereafter), and explores the possible mechanism of multinational enterprises' (MNEs hereafter) adjustment. The uniqueness of this research is that, by applying the detailed firm- and affiliate-level information of the Japanese multinationals, I can carefully examine the mechanisms of how Japanese firms make subsequent adjustment through internal (intra-firm trade) and external activities (local sourcing v.s. sourcing from other countries), to offset the potentially rising costs caused by uncertainty shocks. Such attempt will be the pioneer one of its kind.
In the past calender year, I focused on applying for the data (to METI) and brainstorming with coauthors as well as colleagues. The application process takes time because there are various sources which belong to different governmental departments. In the meantime, I have arranged a workshop to discuss about the potential topics and their practicability with other group members.

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
After I receive the data from METI, I'm going to conduct initial analysis based on the research plan. In the meantime, I will arrange the second round of workshops to discuss the preliminary findings, and present them in both domestic and international conferences/workshops.
