Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The primary objective of this project is to understand and examine the puzzle behind lower vaccination use considering India as a case study that (1) contributes to the largest pools of under-vaccinated children in the world, (2) accounts for one-third of the annual vaccine-preventable child deaths globally, and (3) among one of the lowest vaccination rates in the world.
I have published two working papers on this project. In addition, I have also presented my findings at six international and seven domestic conferences. In the following, I list the working papers I wrote for this project. (1) Sur, P.K., 2021. Why is the Vaccination Rate Low in India? Asian Growth Research Institute Working Paper No. 2021-3 (2) Sur, P.K., 2021. Understanding the Puzzle of Primary Health-care Use: Evidence from India. Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
I have collected the historical and contemporary datasets from India to implement the project. I have analyzed them and presented my findings at seven domestic and six international conferences. Additionally, I have written two papers on this project. I have published them as working papers. I am currently working hard on collecting additional historical datasets for this research. Furthermore, I am revising the working papers for publication in international peer-review journals.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I plan to visit the Indian Archives to get additional historical data for this project. In addition, I also plan to revise the current working papers and publish them in international peer-review journals. In the future, I will extend this project to other fields.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The current research aims to combine historical data from national archives and household data from national representative surveys. I could not be able to visit the National Archive in India to collect the historical dataset last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, I wrote the papers using the existing dataset that I collected before. In the next fiscal year, I aim to visit the Indian National Archive to collect the historical data for this project. Therefore, I need the necessary funds next fiscal year.
