Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Analysis of students' experiences in virtual student mobility showed that virtual student mobility program promotes access to international education for those who may not afford it otherwise, and it promotes their interest in internationalization. On the other hand, VSM model challenges existing definition of international mobility and the binary understanding of inbound and outbound mobility.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Several case studies of virtual student mobility programs in Japan and East Asian countries were conducted mainly exploring students' perspectives and learning experiences in the program. The case studies consisted of student surveys as well as interviews with students, faculty members, and administrators.
The findings of one case study was presented at relevant international conferences and published in an academic journal.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In FY2023, based on scoping review and the case studies, the researcher will work on conceptual framework development for analyzing and understanding the virtual student mobility and share the results with academics and practitioners of international education in Japan and overseas.
|
Causes of Carryover |
In FY2022, data collection was conducted during international conferences which saved expenses for survey and interview collection. The small difference from FY2022 will used in FY2023 research works.
