Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This study examines researchers’ perspectives on challenges and opportunities influencing the development of international research collaborations between Japanese researchers and their international research collaborators. Research systems in each nation differently shape the scholarship identity of each individual researcher, and national interests of each nation have also influenced the development of research system and structure. This focuses on analyzing various perspectives of individual researchers, policymakers, and research support professionals to understand how to refine research policies at the institutional, national, and international levels.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The principal investigator has refined the conceptual framework through his engaged research activities through the conference presentations such as the 7th World Conference on Research Integrity (Cape Town), the International Network for the Science of Team Science Conference 2022 (Virtual), the 67th Annual Conference of the Comparative and International Education Society (Washington D.C.). The principal investigator was able to exchange ideas and get critical feedback from the conference participants. Incorporating their feedback and ideas was useful for the principal investigator to refine the conceptual framework. The principal investigator was also elected as one of the 22 fellows in the Japan-U.S. Science Communication & Policy Fellowship Network Program 2022-2023.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The principal investigator added the research targets (research policies) to the original research subjects (individual researchers). During the research framework refinement process over the last two years, I have recognized the significance of including perspectives of other stakeholders (policymakers and research support professionals) in this research. It will be useful to incorporate their perspectives to analyzing and understand emerging challenges in international research collaborations.
