Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Several proposed milestones were achieved. First, a bilingual, native Japanese speaker was hired as a research assistant and worked with the primary investigator to prepare materials for the proposed research. This includes creation and translation of the ethics board application, which is detailed due to the health-related nature of the research. In addition, given the fairly novel nature of this research, reliable and valid measures of social, mental, and physical variables and participants' study tasks required translation and back-translation from English into Japanese. These tasks were accomplished in Reiwa 3. This will allow data collection to begin promptly upon the investigator's return from medical leave and after submitting the applications to the ethics board for approval.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The primary investigator is currently on a medical leave of absence, therefore there has been a pause in the proposed research plan. Initially, the research had proposed for Reiwa 3 to be dedicated to preparing for the three separate studies through protocol training, institutional/ethics review, and translations, with the laboratory acute-stressor paradigm with 1-day ambulatory physiology monitoring study to begin in Reiwa 4. Although the protocol preparation, translations, and ethics applications were successfully prepared in Reiwa 3, the ethics applications were not submitted for review/approval, as the investigator went on medical leave. Thus, upon return from leave, the submission, review, and approval of these studies by the ethics board will still need to take place.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Originally, the proposed research plan intended to conduct three separate studies, each consisting of a complementary research methodology (e.g. laboratory paradigm, daily-life longitudinal paradigm, clinical sample) to test for converging evidence of the research hypotheses. Due to the delay mentioned in the previous response, there will be an adjustment to the study plan, such that the laboratory paradigm and daily-life longitudinal paradigm will not recruit participants and gather data in tandem, rather than sequentially.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The incurred amount to be used next fiscal year is due to the primary investigator taking a medical leave of absence, thus pausing the research plan in the second half of Reiwa 3. This remaining amount will still be used in Reiwa 4 as proposed in the Research Plan: to compensate participants for their participation in the research study and to compensate research assistants for data collection/working with participants.
