Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Carbon enriched hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) bulk crystal is exfoliated to hBN nanosheets on a Si/SiO2 substrate. We focus on the color-center (CC) emission peak at 804nm, which preserves its emission properties up to room temperatures while presenting a fast operation with a lifetime of 300ps.
Through numerical simulations we choose Ag triangle nanoparticles (NPs) that support a localized plasmon resonance at 800nm. We place them on top of a Si/SiO2 substrate.
We mechanically transfer a hBN nanosheet, of 30nm thickness, on top of the Ag nanoparticles. The near-field of the CCs excites the plasmon modes of the Ag NP. Then, the CCs lifetime is reduced from 300ps to below 50ps and the CC's signal is enhanced. Hence, the CC/Ag NP combined system presents an ultrafast and ultrabright operation.
