Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、化石生物の種同定の自動化を試みるものである。化石の種同定は古生物学の基本であり、地質年代の決定や古環境・堆積環境の推定のために欠かせない技術である。化石種は形態情報に基づく種記載と同定が行われるが、多くの場合で、それらは定性的指標に基づいて主観的に行われて来た。この作業を正確に行うには、長年の経験を要し、古生物学研究の作業効率を低下させている。そこで、本研究ではまず化石を3Dデジタル化する。そして、得られたデータを、深層学習技術を用いて処理し、化石の種分類の自動化を実現することによって、古生物学における同定作業の大幅な簡略化を目指すものである。本年度は、申請者の自動車接触事故による負傷で右腕を長期に渡り,化石標本や3Dスキャナーを用いた作業を実施することができなかった。そのため,標本収蔵調査を中心に遂行した。

Reason

長期にわたるCOVID-19のパンデミックの影響および申請者の通勤中の交通事故による骨折のため、研究計画の変更を余儀なくされた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

来年度は、本研究の最終年度となるため、これまでに得られたデータを中心に本研究の完成を目指していく。

Causes of Carryover

ウクライナ戦争およびCOVID-19等の影響により、標本調査を控えたため。来年度は標本調査計画を再検討しつつ、可能な限り実施を行う。
