Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The motion responses of a suspension ship in head waves were investigated through numerical calculation and experimental validation. Hydrodynamic coefficients and wave-exciting forces/moments were determined using OrcaWave. A method was proposed to estimate wave-exciting forces/moments at advancing speeds based on those at zero speed. Motion responses were analyzed across various damping coefficients and spring constants. Results reveal that tuning only the spring constant or damping coefficient offers limited reduction in cabin motion, necessitating different pairs of these parameters for distinct wave encounter frequencies. Study on stability highlights the challenge of achieving adequate initial transverse stability with a fully suspended cabin in a monohull compared to a catamaran.
