Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
By the end of this year, the influencing mechanism of the obstacle was introduced into the simulation to predict pedestrian egress efficiency, after which the obstacle was further successfully applied to pedestrian management at a railway station. On the one hand, simulations were performed to reproduce the three types of influence, i.e., improved, balanced, and decreased, of the obstacle on egress efficiency. In more detail, the extent of pedestrian self-organization was introduced into the simulation to reproduce different pedestrian behaviors from normal egress to panic emergency evacuation. As a result, the three different types of obstacle influences were reproduced successfully. On the other hand, pedestrian management using the obstacle was performed in a railway station in Tokyo. One specific pillar, which passengers coming from six different directions passed by, was used as the objective obstacle with a roundabout walking rule. This roundabout walking rule was proposed to improve pedestrian self-organization in multi-directional walking conditions. LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors were applied to collect pedestrian trajectory data for further congestion evaluation. Results showed that applying the obstacle to manage pedestrians can significantly decrease pedestrian congestion.
