Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Erythritol is a typical C4 sugar alcohol, and it can be an important building block in biomass refinery because of a possibility of its production by fermentation of glycerol, as well as glucose. Recently, erythritol was selected as the substrate for the deoxydehydration and hydrogenation (DODH + HG) over CeO2 supported Re catalsyt, and the kinetic modelling had been conducted. During the reaction, DODH + HG of primary-secondary vicinal OH groups in erythritol gives 1,2-butanediol while the consecutive DODH + HG of 1,2-butanediol results in n-butane. Contrary to it DODH+HG of 1,4-butanediol, formed as a product DODH + HG of the secondary-secondary vicinal OH groups in erythritol, does not proceed further. Moreover, it is envisaged that in the modelling of DODH + HG of erythritol will be connected to the prediction and the interpretation of the product distribution in DODH+HG of more complex sugars, i.e. xylitol and sorbitol.
