Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The selectivity of the anions to cementitious materials is initially investigated. The selectivity of various anions to hydrocalumite and ettringite is studied by a combination of experimental results and computational chemistry. The anions immobilized in hydrocalumite are mainly determined by the anionic radius and hydration abilities. However, the selectivity of anions to ettringite is generally controlled by the anions' hydration ability. The performance of anions to these hydroxides are evaluated for understanding the migration behavior and also applied for development of new immobilization materials. Based on these, we have summarized one work on this and will be published in international journals. Considering the Portland cement have some defects (low compatibility, longer setting time, etc.) on the immobilization of pollutants, I have collaborated with some international research institutes on developing novel immobilization materials based on selectivity research. We have applied this material to immobilize some industrial wastes. Based on the experiments, we found this material exhibits outstanding performance on the immobilization of pollutants. This material could be applied for the treatment of various pollutants.
