Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In plants, the phenomenon where pre-inoculation with a virus suppresses subsequent infection by the same virus is called superinfection exclusion. In this study, we conduct basic experiments to develop a control method utilizing superinfection exclusion against viroids, plant pathogens consisting of circular single-stranded RNA, which cause damage to various crops.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
植物において,事前のウイルス接種が後の同種ウイルスの感染を抑制する現象を干渉効果と呼び,弱毒ウイルスの製剤化や事前接種苗の販売も行われている.本課題では,ウイロイドの移行性に関与する配列について知見を得たが,このような知見を集積し,作物に対する感染のしやすさを考慮しながら配列設計することで,ウイロイドにおいても安定的な干渉効果の実現が近づくと考える.
