Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In order to apply the muon in cancer research, main goal of this research is to detect the molecular oxygen in biosamples using muon method. Since the water and molecular oxygen are existed in the biosamples, I have planned to perform systematic study starting from water, oxygen dependent in water, buffer and biosamples. So far, I have studied the muon and muonium behavior in water. The stopping site of muon in ice has been found for the first time and the data were explained satisfactorily using new model. As a next step, oxygen dependent study in water will be performed. Then, the detection of oxygen in biosamples (hemoglobin, blood plasma) and inhomogeneous system of hemoglobin and blood plasma will be performed within the project period.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Since the water can not be separated from the biosample, I have studied the muon behavior in water. I have found stopping sites of muon in water/ice for the first time and modeled the data satisfactory. This data is going to publish in high indexed journal (a paper in under review in Physical Review Letter). This achievement will provide the new insight into existing muon science field.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In addition of water, molecular oxygen are also exited in biosamples. So the experiment proposals for oxygen dependent study are proposed in MLF, J-PARC and RIKEN-RAL. A proposal at MLF for 2022A round of beamtime has already got approved. Oxygen dependent muon behavior in water, buffer, hemoglobin, blood plasma and inhomogenous system will be performed.

Causes of Carryover |
