Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the first year, I successfully developed the plan and specifics of the silicon probe implantation into superior colliculus. We have planned the implantation surgery and targets in the brain using MRI and atlas. Due to issues with COVID from the manufacturer (ATLAS neuro), I received the silicon probes in March 2021, so we have not implanted yet. I developed the software to display the visual stimuli (videos etc.) to marmosets and to record/stimulate in SC. I collected more free-viewing data of visual stimuli from marmosets to quantify patterns of visual behavior.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Due to issues with COVID from the manufacturer (ATLAS neuro), I received the silicon probes in March 2022 (should have received in September 2021).
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the next few months I will begin the implantations of the silicon probes (with 3D printing for the chamber) into a marmoset. I will also begin test microstimulation experiments in the marmoset to build a forward model that will be used for the inverse (to determine correct stimulation parameters for the prosthesis).

Causes of Carryover |
Due to the delay from the manufacturer from COVID (ATLAS neuro), we could not receive some items (silicon probes for implantation) within the first fiscal year and thus could not do the implantation surgeries. We will do them soon.
