Outline of Final Research Achievements

Healthcare challenges existing within the Graduate School of Medicine at Tohoku University and its affiliated institutions were identified, and based on these challenges, a specialized medical AI educational program for healthcare professionals was developed. By the end of March 2023, 294 medical practitioners had enrolled in the program, of which 59 (approximately 20.0%) completed it. Among the completers were doctoral students (physicians) from the Graduate School of Medicine at Tohoku University who, as of July 2023, had one AI-related paper accepted for publication and received eight awards for oral presentations and similar recognitions. Additionally, medical students made two oral presentations. Therefore, the educational program proposed in this study is suggested to be effective for medical practitioners.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究で提案する教育プログラムは、医療に特化したAI教育プログラムであり、医学部生および医師である大学院生に対して、AI研究を行う下地を涵養することに有効であることが示唆された。国内の医療AIの研究開発を主導する実践的人材は不足しているというべき状況であるが、この教育プログラムはオンデマンドで配信されており、講義の疑問質問に対応する体制も構築されているため、時間がない医療者に対しても学習の機会が確保されている。近年AIの性能が加速度的に向上しており、高齢化社会や働き方改革を始めとした様々な社会的要請に対応することが可能な医療AI研究者が増加することが期待できる。
