Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During AY2022, with this research fund, I conducted experiments on how a facilitator agent can assist low-resource language speakers and gave several research presentations at international conferences, including the following:
Conference: Collaboration Technologies and Social Computing 2022 (in Chile) - Title: Facilitator Agent to Support Low-Resource Language Speakers in MT-Mediated Communication
Conference: Cross-Cultural Design (CCD) 2022, as Part of the 24th HCI International Conference 2022 (Virtual) - Title:Confidence Value Calculation for Cultural-Based Misunderstanding Warning in Multilingual Chat - Title:Annotation References for Facilitation Analysis in Intercultural Collaboration (Co-author) - Title:Evaluation Dataset for Cultural Difference Detection Task (Co-author)

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
I have spent a significant amount of time and resources over the last year exploring potential methods and conducting various experiments related to designing the facilitator agent including analysis of children's collaboration chat log, cultural difference analysis based on language models, emoji analysis on social media(Twitter), and various methods of cultural difference detection.
The results of the last year's experiments have resulted in a large dataset that will be the focus of my publication efforts in the coming year. I intend to publish the research findings in reputable academic journals.
Furthermore, because I now have enough data and results to build the facilitator agent, I will devote this academic year to its development which will be a significant milestone in this research.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Moving forward, my research will concentrate on several key areas in order to advance the project's knowledge and impact. First, we intend to develop a facilitator agent based on previous research findings. This will entail the use of a chat-based agent as well as a physical agent (robot). In addition, I intend to improve the facilitator agent's functionality with natural language processing. The agent will be able to respond to the user, increasing its effectiveness as a facilitator.
To accomplish this, I will seek collaboration and feedback from experts in the field through workshops and conferences.
In terms of publication, I plan to submit the previous research result to high-impact academic journals and present our work at conferences, such as CSCW, to maximize its visibility and reach.

Causes of Carryover |
Because of the delay of the part-time job documents and the timing for payment, 218,138 was executed in April 2023 instead of March 2022.
