Outline of Final Research Achievements

The three main results of this research are as follows. 1 )This study revealed the perceptions of religious people toward rock climbing and modern alpinism. 2 )This study considered the possibility of using mountain beliefs for tourism from the standpoint of religious people. 3 )This study examined how tourism and religious beliefs could be utilized in town planning.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究は特に山岳信仰と関わる宗教文化・伝統文化の保護と、持続・発展可能な観光開発を両立するための基礎資料としての知見を提供するものである。国土の７割が山地の日本において、山岳信仰と関わりのない地域はないと考えられており、本研究で蓄積した民俗誌的データは、日本の文化観光に関わる主体にとって極めて重要な示唆をもたらす社会的意義の大きいものであると言える。
