Outline of Annual Research Achievements

We proposed a brand new electro-optic streaking technique for the single-shot measurement of the electron longitudinal phase space (LPS) in laser wakefield acceleration. Based on the preparations in the first fiscal year, the major research achievements in the last fiscal year are:
(1) For the experimental aspect: The experimental set-up of the LPS measurement in LWFA was carefully designed. A dog-leg system composed of two dipole magnet was designed. The magnets have been manufactured and delivered. For easier access to the overall self-field information of the electron bunches, the measurement on the transition radiations (TR) from the electron bunches are planned.
(2) For the theoretical aspect: I have developed a code covering all the sessions in the LPS measurement: time lag calculation in the dog-leg, TR imaging calculation, electro-optic (EO) signal calculation, etc. In the calculation, I have observed distinguishable differences of the EO signals when the electron bunches have different temporal energy chirps.
Major publication highlights: The paper "Kai Huang et al., Applied Physics Express 15, 036001 (2022)" was specially selected as the highlight of the journal from all the spotlight papers in 2022. Two invited review papers were published: “K. Huang, J. Plasma Fusion Res. Vol.99, No.2 (2023) 33-39” and “J. Particle Accelerator Society of Japan, Vol. 19, No. 3, 2022”. Several talks have been given in international conferences.
