Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study produced, based on newly accessible manuscripts, both a critical edition of Chapters 1-4 of the biography of Chag lo tsa ba Chos rje dpal (1197-1264), a Tibetan monk-pilgrim who travelled around India and Nepal in the thirteenth century, and an annotated English translation of the text. Through the lens of this Tibetan's descriptions, I shed some light on the social context, geography, customs, and beliefs surrounding Buddhism in thirteenth-century India and Nepal, thus providing new, basic data that will be available to researchers across a wide range of fields, especially in Indian Buddhism, for which historical sources are scarce.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
