Outline of Final Research Achievements

Semi-structured interviews and secondary data analysis were used to investigate Malawians' perspectives on the government's response to the siege of Malawi. Based on the data collected and the literature review, an innovative theoretical framework was presented to inspire future research on transnational and non-traditional security issues that emphasises local perspectives. The study also has implications for foreign policy in that it motivates national leaders to recognise local actors as a powerful source of information for foreign policy. The project results were presented at a conference and published in an academic journal. Another journal article is currently under peer review.
