Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
First, I finished a formal analysis of the impact of fair trade (FT) on child labor in a small open economy. In addition to the results derived before, I showed that when the share of non-FT households is low, an increase in FT premium reduces the total working time of children. Moreover, if the income elasticity of child labor is low, an increase in the FT-premium reduces children’s total working time even with a large share of non-FT households. Therefore, FT-premium is expected to be an efficient measure to combat child labor in low-income countries where child labor is typically inelastic. Second, I summarized the study in a research paper. I presented this paper at two conferences and received comments from discussants and participants. Third, I submitted this paper to a peer-reviewed international journal. Additionally, I surveyed the status of fair trade and published the results.
