Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In Japan, approximately 180,000 minor children experienced parental divorce in 2021. Research in Japan has mainly been limited to cross-sectional surveys, making it difficult to estimate causal relationships and identify changes in children's adjustment over time. In the present study, mothers (N=500) who had been divorced for less than two years and were living with their children (aged 2-17 years) received follow-up assessments after two years. Approximately half of the participants responded after one year, and 34% responded after two years. Data from three time points were analyzed using a cross-lagged effects model. Conflictual co-parenting was found to have a positive effect on externalizing problems.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
