Outline of Final Research Achievements

We were at a loss as to whether we should distinguish between filling defects and simple visual field defects (hazy visual field changes) in order to evaluate subjective visual fields, and thus, not so significant progress was made. Since there are several laboratories specializing in visual psychology within the Kyoto university, we are considering the possibility of conducting joint research.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

緑内障治療においては①早期発見②治療通院継続③より低侵襲かつ効果的な手術治療の開発 という３つが肝要と本研究者は考えるが、この研究で試みていたものは特に②に資するものであった。つまり、疾患理解促進により②が達成され、そして手術へ至った際にも、患者および家族へなぜ手術加療が必要なのかを、より理解しやすく説明できれば、「手術は必要だが踏み切れずに徒然に時間が経過する」という事態も回避しやすくなるからである。現在、この目標はそのままに、緑内障通院継続に資するアプリケーションを開発している最中であり、この点では当初の研究の背景・目的からは逸脱せずに研究継続することができていると考える。
