Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The research has progressed as planned but with a slight change in schedule. The metagenomic study and genome-wide analysis of the oral cavity in psychological stress and ovariectomized rats have been completed. The proteomic study has been planned for the coming year. Some additional experiments were performed to investigate the matter deeper. A study to determine if psychological stress/depression-related drugs affect the oral cavity. The results showed that there was a significant alteration in oral microbiome after the tricyclic antidepressant, amitriptyline was systemically administered to rats. The results were published in an international journal. Another study was performed to determine if psychological stress affects the gene expression of salivary glands in rats. The results of the genome-wide analysis showed significant alteration in gene expression and cellular and molecular pathways in the submandibular gland of rats after psychological stress. The findings were presented at an international conference in the United States. The results of metagenomic analyses and genome-wide analysis are being analyzed and the manuscript is being prepared to submit it for publication in an international journal.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Some mechanisms were needed to be clarified before the main experiment. Therefore, additional experiments were carried out. The results of the additional experiments were good so it was decided to publish in an international journal. Therefore, the schedule was slightly delayed.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Proteomic analysis of saliva will be done in the coming year. Candidate salivary protein altered in ovariectomized rats will be identified. The candidate protein may be used as a salivary biomarker in post-menopausal females. The protein may also have a role in oral diseases such as burning mouth syndrome which is prevalent in post-menopausal females. Also, manuscript preparation using the results of metagenomic analysis and genome-wide analysis for submission to an international journal is in progress and will be submitted coming year.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The reason for the amount used in the next fiscal year was that the proteomics analysis that was scheduled to be performed in this fiscal year could not be performed. We plan to conduct proteomics analysis in the next fiscal year and use the amount used in the next fiscal year.
