Research Abstract |
The main purpose of this project was to examine the prosodic structures of Japanese dialects in comparison with those of other languages of the world, including Korean, Chinese and Bantu, to clarify the characteristics of Japanese from typological viewpoints. To achieve this goal, we set up a special theme for each year (loanword prosody, question prosody, accent/tone neutralizations, and accent/tone changes) and discussed these topics at the four international symposia we organized in Japan. We summarized our findings in many academic papers and published them in various journals in and outside Japan, including the special issue of Lingua (2012, No. 122).
