Outline of Final Research Achievements

Although forest area in Southeast Asia has been drastically reduced in the past 200 years, some of forests are still remained through interaction with human being. This study aims to get a way of sustainable forest management by clarifying how human being has lived together with forest. The main research sites were Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, and Japan. As a result, it was found that comprehensive forest management system was essential because if various resources and functions of forest including animal and plants and ecological service were used by different stakeholders with different purpose, forest is quickly going to be deteriorated.
