| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
地球大気の高度60-150 kmに位置する中間圏・下部熱圏領域(MLT: Mesosphere and Lower-Thermosphere)での大気力学過程について、特に大気波動の長短期変動特性を、アジア低緯度域で運用されている流星レーダーと中波帯(MF)レーダーの観測により解明する。
インドネシア政府機関と共同で1992年に流星レーダーをジャカルタ近郊に、また1995年にMFレーダーを西カリマンタンに設置した。2001年に西スマトラのトコタバンに建設された赤道大気レーダー(EAR)の観測所内に流星レーダーを2002年に設置し、2004年にジャワ島南西岸にMFレーダーを追加した。本基盤研究で2011年6月に西パプアのビアク島に流星レーダーを新設した。これで赤道に沿って東西約4000 kmに広がるレーダー観測網を構築できた。
一方、南インドのMFレーダーや豪州と米国が太平洋(クリスマス島、カウアイ島、キリバス)で運用しているMFレーダー等のデータを相互利用する解析システムを開発した。 レーダー・衛星データの統合解析によりMLT領域における平均風の長期トレンドおよび半年・1年・準2年・季節内振動を調べ、同時に各種の大気波動(赤道ケルビン波、大気潮汐、大気重力波等)の特性を研究した。
本年度は大気波動にともなう運動量フラックス（東西、南北成分：u’w’、v’w’）に着目し、近年提案された流星レーダーによる新測定法の検証を行った。同じ仕様の流星レーダーがインドネシア東西端のコトタバンとビアクにある利点を活かし、u’w’とv’w’の高度・季節変化を両地点で比較した。データ量が十分な期間では結果が整合的であり、新測定法の有効性を示せた。さらに、u’w’とv’w’はそれぞれ半年と１年周期で変動し、背景風の季節変化に関係すると示唆された。研究成果を2件の論文として国際誌に公表した。
