Research Abstract

2009年9月,国際宇宙ステーションの日本実験モジュール「きぼう」の暴露部に超伝導サブミリ波リム放射サウンダ(Superconducting Sub-millimeter-Wave Limb-Emission Sounder : SMILES)が設置され,測器の不具合のために機能を停止した2010年4月までの約半年間,SMILESは中層大気領域の大気観測をおこなった.SMILESは4K冷却機と超伝導技術を利用したサブミリ波リム放射観測装置で,オゾン光化学過程と密接に関わる大気微量成分の3次元全球分布データを取得している.ここでは,SMILESから得られた超高感度観測データの解析を通して,オゾン層破壊とその回復に向けたシナリオにとって本質的な化学反応過程をより定量的に論議し,地球大気質変動の将来予測に資する知見を得ることを目的としている.初年度である今年はまず,非常に高い精度を持ったSMILES観測データの妥当性を吟味するため,十分な時間をかけてゾンデや地上観測データ・他の衛星観測データとの比較・検証をおこなった.その結果,SMILES観測データがこれまでの衛星観測を凌ぐ高い精度を持っていることが明らかになった.また,オゾンをはじめとする大気微量成分の時空間分布を把握することで,これまでオゾン光化学過程における重要性が認識されながらもグローバルな観測がほとんどなかったBr0の全球的な分布をはじめて明らかにした.さらに,SMILESが地方時1日分のデータを約1ヶ月の走査で取得可能であるという特性を生かして,ClO, BrO, HO2などの日変化の様子をはじめて捉えた.特に,これまでにない精度でClOの背景値がえられており,このClOの観測に加えHCl, HOCl, HO2の同時観測データを解析することによって成層圏の塩素化学にも重要な寄与ができるものと期待される.
