Research Abstract |
In this study, the dissemination of intracellular pathogen from maternal blood flow to the placenta was revealed. Even in the case of pathogens, which preferencially infect to the placenta, drastical accumulation of the infected maternal leukocytes was not observed in the placenta. It may be because the lack of expression of molecules related with cell adhesion on the most surface layer of the placenta. Physical disruption of the layer must be important for vertical transmission of intracellular pathogens.
