Research Abstract |
The main process in synaptic transmission is neurotransmitter release. It is important to elucidate the processes of neurotransmitter release for understanding synaptic plasticity and memory formation. So far, we have revealed that a SNARE regulator protein named tomosyn negatively regulates neurotransmitter release. In this study, we showed that tomosyn directly binds to Ca^<2+> sensor protein named synaptotagmin-1 in a Ca^<2+>-dependent manner. Tomosyn negatively regulates synaptotagmin-1-mediated step of Ca^<2+>-dependent neurotransmitter release. Tomosyn-synaptotagmin1 complex forms a novel process named closing and regulates continuous neurotransmitter release.
