Research Abstract |
Protein levels of HIF-1αand angiogenic growth factors were attenuated by glucose in hypoxic mouse mesenchymal stem cells in a dose-dependent manner. We also found that stimulation with a high-glucose concentration significantly increased intracellular superoxide levels and proteasome activity in hypoxic stem cells, which may cause HIF-1α degradation. Thus, the modulation of proteasome activity may ameliorate the impaired therapeutic efficacy by autologous bone-marrow-derived cells in diabetic patients.
