This research aims to examine the periods from the early eighteenth century to the Regency, when overseas colonies were established and Great Britain gained its national strength. Thereby, focusing on Jane Austen, British novels written in those days were historically and culturally studied from the manifold viewpoints. Additionally, to clarify the influence of British culture, Indian and American novels were read.
