There are so many kinds of the colloquial materials in Modern Mandarin which have not been investigated in China. The present study investigated four different forms of source materials: 1) the newspapers and the periodicals written in the colloquial Mandarin and published in Beijing from the end of the Qing Period to the early Republican Period 2) the playbooks for the Shadow Play circulated in Beijing(北京) and Hebei Province in the end of Qing Period 3) the affiant statements recorded in the court of justice in the Qing Period 4) the oral expressions in the drama telecasted and played in Beijing. The result of the research can be concluded as follows: some grammatical features found in 1),2),and 3) are similar to those in the last one and these grammatical features are also found in the expressions that were used in novels and other literature of Qing Period.
