Research Abstract |
I analyze the location choices of households and industries in an economy with agingpopulation and declining birthrate. First, I analyze intergenerational living arrangements(whether or not a parent and child co-reside). In an economy with aging population anddeclining birthrate, the same intergenerational living arrangement tends to be repeatedfrom generation to generation. This makes interregional migration stagnant. Next, Iincorporate industries which intensively employ human capital in this model, and analyzethe human capital accumulation and the location choice of the industries. The results fitthe actual gap in university entrant rate among regions in Japan. The agglomerationpattern of the industries is more likely exhibit multi-polarization.
