Research Abstract |
We investigated how Japanese mothers provide multiple labels in ADS and IDS words, and how Japanese toddlers process multiple labels in ADS and IDS words for a single object. 1) Japanese mothers substantially provide multiply ADS and IDS labels. IDS forms are often used as other functions such as sound effect as well as labeling. 2) Japanese 12-month-olds failed to learn any ADS and IDS words in multiple labeling situations, while 16-month-olds preferentially succeeded in learn IDS words. 3) Japanese 20-month-old children showed disambiguation effect, while they acquire multiple labels for a familiar single object.
