Research Abstract |
We found that the genomic recombination occurs in periodontopathogenic bacterium, Eikenella corrodens, through phage infection. Moreover, we found that the genomic recombination leads to hypervirulation including the increase of lectin activity, biofilm formation, hemolytic activity, growth rate, and induction of inflammatory cytokine. We suggested that this hypervirulation might occur frequently in E. corrodens.
