Research Abstract

Function of cardiac ADRP, a lipid-droplet associated protein, was analyzed in a diabetic mouse model. Cardiac-specific ARRP-overexpressing (Tg) mice, global ADRP-KO mice (KO) and wildtype (Wt) littermates were treated with streptozotocin to induce diabetes. Despite massive lipid accumulation, systolic function was maintained in diabetic Tg mice with ameliorated diabetic gene expression profile.Packaging excess fatty acids into lipid droplets, cardiac ADRP might play a role in protecting cardiomyocytes against lipotoxicity in diabetes.
