Research Abstract |
By electrical pulp tester (EPT), patients with hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy (HSAN-IV)cases did not feel any sensation at all in their teeth, but HSAN-V cases felt the pre-pain sensation similar to a normal person. Only a few myelinated fibers were observed in HSAN-IVcases, on the other hand, many fibers were identified in the dental pulp of patients withHSAN-V. The present result shows that remarkably reduced pulpal innervation might induce congenitalinsensitivity to pain in HSAN-IV.
