Research Abstract |
Using data from the Miyagi Cohort Study conducted in Japan, the authors investigated the association between personality and varieties of cause-specific mortality. This study included 29, 432 subjects (men : 14, 327, women : 15, 105)aged 40-64 years at the baseline who completed the Japanese version of the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised Short Form in 1990. Neuroticism had a positive association with suicide mortality (HR=2. 03, 95%confidence intervals (CIs): 1. 05, 3. 93). Psychoticism had positive associations with mortality due to all-causes (HR=1. 25, 95%CIs : 1. 13, 1. 38), cardiovascular disease (HR=1. 27, 95%CIs : 1. 04, 1. 55), suicide (HR=2. 43, 95%CIs : 1. 28, 4. 63), and accident and homicide (HR=1. 70, 95%CIs : 1. 12, 2. 58).
